LinkedIn Lab Part 2 - Getting the most out of LinkedIn

LinkedIn™ is an online professional network and is becoming an increasingly valuable tool for your career development.

This session is designed as a follow-on to the Part 1 (although you do not have to have attended part 1 before attending this session).
This practical session, based in a computer cluster, will introduce you to some of the more advanced, and little known, features of LinkedIn which can really help you.

The session will cover:
• How to identify potential contacts
• How to use it to identify potential employers
• How to use it to research career paths, including what other Leeds graduates have gone on to do
• Groups and why they’re useful

You need to have created an account on LinkedIn to attend this session.

Criminal Justice Careers and Volunteering Fair

The School of Law is organising a small fair for all University of Leeds students who are interested in finding out about possible career and volunteering opportunities in the field of criminal justice. The Fair is an opportunity for you to speak to representative from various organisations about the work they do, your career options, job and volunteering vacancies and how to apply for them. There will also be information sheets to pick up about organisations which cannot attend such as e.g. the MI5 or MI6, Police Now or the Unlocked Graduate Programme.

These organisations have confirmed their attendance at the Fair so far:

Discover careers in risk and wealth management - by CII

This session, delivered by the CII and supported by graduates from sector companies, gives you the chance to understand two rapidly-changing parts of the finance sector. You’ll learn about the key technical roles that are client-facing and behind the scenes; understand the current sector trends and opportunities; and see which companies have live internships and graduate schemes.  

 

At the end of the session you will have the chance to ask questions and sign up for free membership of the CII – the world’s largest network of professionals working in risk and wealth management.

 

The session is open to all students, reflecting the fact that graduates from all disciplines have been recruited in to our professions.

Optional Placement Year

Thinking about a work placement year before the final year of your BA? A year at work is a great way to build your professional skills and gain experience that will help you to compete effectively when you are applying for jobs after graduation.

 

Joanie Carlyle from the Careers Centre gives a practical introduction to help you explore the options and get started with placement year applications. You’ll also gain insights from final year Arts students who have just returned from a work placement year. There will be opportunities for questions.

 

The event is designed for level 2 History, PRHS and LCS students on 3-year programmes which do not have a compulsory Year Abroad.
