Class of 2019: Knowing your employment rights and the gig economy

Date: 01 May 2019
Time: 14:00

Booking and Further Information

If you are working or looking for a job that is full-time, part-time, casual or temporary - know your rights!

It is more important than ever that you know your rights as an employee and are unafraid to challenge things in the workplace that don’t seem right, just or equal.

This presentation will introduce you to basic employment rights such as wages, working time, discrimination and more.
How the law protects your rights will be discussed in addition to example cases, of where an employee’s rights were breached and how they took action.
The trend towards a gig economy is also very evident, where more and more jobs are becoming temporary and short-term.
The talk will cover your rights in this context and what to stay mindful of if you take up a position like this.

The session will be led by University of Leeds Law students, who have worked with a local solicitor to inform you of the most relevant, accurate and up-to-date information in relation to employment rights.
This talk is open to all students, anyone is welcome to attend.
