Work Placement Module

If you are considering a work placement in your 3rd year and your home department does not offer a placement module for your degree, this module is set up for you.

You must secure a placement, or placements (maximum 3) amounting to 9 months (average 12, maximum 15 months) duration to begin at the end of your successfully completed second year of study.  The Careers Centre is here to help you with your placement search and provide all pre-placement and on-placement support.

This module:

  • carries 120 credits.
  • is assessed by a 2,000 word written summary of the work placement, a 10 minute formal presentation regarding the work placement and a 50 minute structured interview regarding the work placement.

On completion of this module you should be able to demonstrate:

  • an understanding of a work environment, how it functions and your contribution to it.
  • an understanding of and ability to apply your work based learning to other areas of personal development, including academic performance.
  • high level transferable skills, including communication (written and oral), self motivation, initiative, organisation and time management, objective setting, negotiating and team working.
  • your ability to decide, plan and compete in the job market.
