Frequently Asked Questions

I would really like to take the opportunity to live and Work in Europe for a year, but I only have a basic ability in the language I would need. Does this mean I can't go?

One of the advantages of the Erasmus+ scheme is that you can improve your language skills. You should have around 9-12 months before you go away (if you are now a second year) and you can use this time to prepare yourself linguistically, by taking a course or using the Language Centre at the University. If you are a first year, then you have lots of time to get ready, language-wise!

Careful choice of your placement can also mean that a high ability level in the host language isn't necessary (eg British Council Language Assistants teach classes in English, placements in large companies where English may be widely used in the office, placements in certain countries eg Republic of Ireland, Netherlands etc).
