Employer led careers events
Every year we run hundreds of events designed to help you in your career journey.
For 2020 our events will be a little different, mostly because they are virtual, but they will still provide you with an opportunity to interact with lots of employers, take part in workshops and build up knowledge of what path may be right for you. To access all events make sure you look at the 'events tab' on MyCareer.
We run events to help you gain an understanding of the range of opportunities out there and find out what recruiters do, who they are looking to recruit and what different industries are like. We organise:
- Virtual Careers Fairs
- Employer Skills Workshops
- Sector Specific Insights
- Insight Days
- Employer Takeovers
- Employability Weeks
How will our events help you?
- Give you a fantastic chance to network with employers, receive top tips and get ahead with your career planning
- Gain an insight into a range industries hearing first hand from recruiters and alumni
- Explore work experience and graduate opportunities from a wide range of organisations
- Benefit from employers' and Careers Centre staff expertise on topics such as applications, psychometric tests or interview skills and get practical advice to improve your chances of success
Virtual Careers Fairs
Participating in a careers fair is a fantastic chance to interact with employers, to find out more about the organisations and to create an initial connection with recruiters. We organise course specific careers fairs in collaboration with faculties and we also run more generic recruitment fairs where you will have the chance to meet recruiters from a wide range of industries. For 2020 our fairs are virtual, and will take place on the Career Fair + Platform. Download the Career Fair + app (Google Play & App Store) for an up-to-date list of attending organisations, or visit the CF+ website for information about each employer and what they look for in a graduate.
Employer Skills Workshops
These are interactive events and they offer the opportunity, in small groups, to develop your job seeking skills. Workshops are delivered either by Careers Centre staff or by employers. In these sessions, employers are offering their expertise in a particular area and not looking to recruit or to promote their organisation.
Check out our latest events in the calendar, by logging on to our events website (updated daily).
Sector Specific Insights
These insights we expect will run for 1-1.5 hours, seeing up to four employers deliver a 10 minute presentation followed by 10 minutes of Q&As, or three employers deliver 15 minute presentations followed by 15 minutes of Q&As.
This is a chance to understand more about different sectors - keep an eye on MyCareer events for when these are added.
We work with employers to develop bespoke insight days, predominantly for students from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds. These days provide an opportunity to find out more about an organisation whilst developing skills, confidence and experience through taking part in a range of activities and talks delivered by each organisation. Normally these take place in the workplace but for 2020 they will be virtual.
Our Employer Takeovers will see you virtually meet employers 'visiting' campus to hold an open drop-in for students to flexibly drop into. Think of it like speaking to them at a stand on campus, but virtually!
You will interact with employers directly and find out details about their company, the roles available and information about the application process. Each takeover will be different and liek all of our events, they will be promoted on MyCareer.
We are developing a series of Employability Weeks that will each focus on a different theme and we expect the weeks to be really varied, they might include employer led skills workshops, a showcase of employer opportunities, alumni panels as well as a focus on diversity and inclusion throughout.
