Spotlight on Teacher Training Workshops

This workshop will explain the different post graduate routes into teaching including: HEI, School Direct, SCITT and Teach First. It will explore entry requirements, how to apply, course timings, how the courses are assessed and the qualifications they lead to.

This workshop will explain the applications process for different teacher training routes and will provide advice about what you should include in your personal statement, if required by the training route. It will explore the value of gaining school experience, how to arrange it and what to look for during your experience.


Teaching Maths and Science

12:45pm to 1:15pm Careers Centre

This workshop is for Maths or Science related degree students in any year of study who may be interested in a career in Teaching. The workshop will cover salaries and bursaries available for STEM teacher training, ways to get school experience and STEM Internships for penultimate year students. We will also cover the secondary curriculum and subject knowledge requirements for teacher training and course structure for the Red Kite Teacher Training and Teach First routes.


What is teacher training really like?

1:30pm to 2pm Careers Centre

This workshop is will be led by Trainee teachers who are currently training with Red Kite Teacher Training. They will talk about their experiences of applying for teacher training, sharing hints and tips. They will also describe what they have been doing on the course since September to give a flavour of whether to expect and what to think about when choosing your teacher training course.

 

Red Kite will be based at the Careers Centre from 11am to 2pm. Please pop by to discuss individual queries and meet current Trainees.

  • Top Tips on how to get a better score!
  • Outlining extra resources available for further VMock support and guidance
  • Answering any queries you may have about VMock


Please be advised that due to time constraints, we will not be using this session to go through individual CVs on VMock.

Getting into News - the good, the bad and the ugly!

ITV news presenter Amy Lea gives you an honest and engaging talk about how to get into the wonderful world of radio and TV journalism. Hints and tips on how to get through the dreaded job interview and how to make each day count when you start climbing the ladder from studio floor to the presenter’s chair.

Amy Lea is a television and radio journalist with over 12 years’ experience in local and regional news, having worked for the BBC and ITV after starting out in commercial radio.

She has been in almost every role in the broadcast newsroom from radio presenter and main news programme anchor to reporter, phone-in producer and travel bulletin researcher.
